Dead Man's Fingers

Xylaria polymorpha

Description:

The Dead Man's Fingers are club-shaped or finger-like fungus. The outside is black and rough. Inside is white. The fungus is tough and woody. I love the common names given to fungi so humans do not forget the names.

Habitat:

On decaying wood above or on buried wood. Generally inconspicuous.
