Gracillariid Moth

Description:

Very small moth of the Family Gracillariidae . The moths of this Family typically sit in an almost vertical position with the tips of the wings against the substrate. The front pair of legs are held folded up against the head and are not used for standing. This posture on a tree trunk would help them appear to be small chips of bark. The larvae are leaf miners.

Habitat:

Semi-urban area on the outskirts of San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.
