Black-necked Stork or Jabiru (juvenile)

Ephippiorhynchus asiaticus

Description:

On our way to our fishing spot we stopped to collect some fresh bait. In the process, a juvenile Jabiru walked up looking for something to eat. He wasn't scared at all. It was a very special experience to feed a 'wild' animal. The following weekend we went back to the same spot. We were 200m from the shore motoring in, and the Jabiru came running down the beach and waded out to the boat. It must have recognised our red boat. After leaving, we were a little concerned about his safety as there are some cruel people in this world. A month later, we passed by and standing tall on the beach was a magnificent bird in adult plumage. We would like to think, that was our "Jabby" and he was doing just fine.

Habitat:

Mangrove lined bay, near Darwin NT

I think that it was a special moment and that he shouldn't have to remove any pictures.
