North American Opossum, juvenile

Didelphis virginiana

Description:

Juvenile opossum on my front porch eating cat food. Notice the back thumbs.

Notes:

Opossums have poor eyesight but they have a great sense of smell and good hearing. I believe they are very beneficial animals.

Oh they sure do. They have a path worn in the yard/grass where they come every evening to check the front porch and other parts of the yard. Top on their list is checking for cat food.......several times per night !
