Great blue heron

Ardea herodias

Description:

Great blue heron with frog in its mouth, on the pond bank beside my house. I didn't get to my camera in time to capture him catching the frog, but I did get him flying away with it still in his mouth.

Habitat:

Habitat is near wetlands, ponds or rivers. Nests are made in tops of tall trees, usually in colonies.
