American Red Squirrel

Tamiasciurus hudsonicus

Description:

American Red Squirrels

Habitat:

In Glendalough State Park under and around the bird feeders and surrounding trees

Notes:

Last year I think I saw two of these little guys in the park. This years there must be over half a dozen of them chattering about. I see them under the feeders eating the fallen sunflower seed there but they're also in trees and one has even chewed a hole through the locked, wooden box that holds the aluminum garbage cans filled with seed stored for the bird feeders. Normally these guys make a loud repeated bark when they feel threatened but they must know my scent from filling the bird feeders or something as they seem fairly calm and quiet whenever I see them.
