Red-shouldered Hawk

Buteo lineatus


This is a medium sized hawk with a beautiful red breast and shoulders as an adult. Juveniles have a streaked breast (see for juvenile). In the western US these birds live in urban areas but they are generally forest dwellers.


This hawk is in an urban residential neighborhood where there are plenty of trees and canyons not far away.
