Found this along a path. Any ideas what kind of a nest it is? I had a praying mantis nest last year that looked similar, but don't know what could possibly emerge from this!!

Hi Theresa, great find! I agree completely with Ava, this is a Mantis Ootheca. I believe this is from a Chinese Mantid. Here are some to compare:
