Brown-throated Sloth, Three-toed Sloth

Description:

This was a fairly large sloth, at least 24" long, and its back, sides, and the outer sides of its arms/legs were heavily spotted dark gray on a lighter gray background in a fairly symmetrical pattern. We watched it from about 20 feet away, for about half an hour, during which time it moved from one tree to the other. The series above shows that process, a photo being taken every three or four minutes. It was s.l.o.w.!

Habitat:

This 3-toed sloth was spotted about ten feet up in a tree bordering a lagoon next to the Amazon River.
