Coke's Hartebeest

Alcelaphus buselaphus cokii

Description:

It was very unusual to see this Hartebeest by itself at the side of the road as they are very social animals normally travelling in packs of up to 300 which is believed to offer some form of protection from the many predators on the plains such as Lion, Hyena and wild dogs. This one was feeding on the grass in the early morning as is usual behaviour for diurnal species.

Habitat:

Serengeti national park, Tanzania

Possibly Mauna as its coat didn't look the best but none of the guides seemed concerned about it so maybe it was just rebelling from the herd?!
