Wish Willy, Black Spiny-tailed Iguana, Black Iguana, or Black Ctenosaur

Ctenosaura similis

Description:

A lizard of many names, the wish willy is also known as the black spiny-tailed iguana, black iguana, or black ctenosaur, but I like wish willy best. This is a small specimen, only about two feet long, and fast as blue blazes. It required some concentrated stalking to get this close for the photo. As it ages it will become more iguana-ish, but right now it is sleek and gorgeous, and it didsn't surprise me to read that it is hailed as the fastest running lizard on earth.

Habitat:

It was spotted on the flat roof of a two storey building on Ambergris Caye, about a hundred yards from the water. I saw other in the rock pilings down at the edge of the beach.
