Small Zebra Jumper

Plexippus petersi

Description:

Salticidae; Salticinae; Plexippus; Plexippus petersi Karsch, 1878. In my spotting, earlier today - https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/11... - I made some remarks about the coloured markings on male Plexippus petersi spiders. Basically what I said was that while Wikipedia uses "yellowish-brown" and "darker brown" in the description section, I have seen only a few P. petersi that I would describe like that. The markings on the specimens of this species seen around here tend to be much more black than brown. However, there are some here which match Wiki's description pretty much exactly. I found this one in my collection and if I read Wiki's description while looking at this one, it seems to be just spot-on. I should mention (because you cannot get any indication of scale from my pictures), that the spider shown here is extremely small and must be a juvenile and I don't know if the colours darken with age.

Habitat:

This little jumper was spotted on our front gate.
