A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Plebejus argus
The butterflies' upperside is rich, deep iridescent blue in the males with a black border. On the hindwings there is a row of inconspicuous black spots along the bottom edge. Females are dark brown with orange spots at the edges. Larvae strongly myrmecophilius. Ova laid on plants in close proximity to ant's nests. Adult larvae pupate in ants' nest into which they are ushered by attending ants. Whitout ants, captive adult larvae become very "agitated" and usually die.
Diverse, in very damp to very dry condition.
