Cinclus mexicanus
The American Dipper is of stocky build and is largely dark grey. They feed on the bottom of fast-moving, rocky streams and build their globe-shaped nests very near the water's edge. They possess an extra eyelid (nictitating membrane) that allows them to see underwater and specialized scales that close their nostrils while underwater.
Inhabits the mountainous regions of Central America and western North America and tends to nest near a fast moving body of water such as a stream or waterfall.
