Red-tailed Tropicbird

Phaethon rubricauda

Description:

Adult bird on ground under a large bush.

Habitat:

Uninhabited coral islet with low vegetation

Notes:

Local name is Tavake. Usually present at Tongareva in most months, but they do migrate elsewhere between November and February. In 2016 we are severely impacted by climate change, so the residence pattern may shift.
