Prothonotary Warbler

Protonotaria citrea

Description:

A brilliant yellow-orange bird of southeastern wooded swamps, the Prothonotary Warbler is a striking sight.

Notes:

This was the second species of warbler that I ever learned, and my first Migrant to see during the early parts of migration in 2010. Three years later, I still get the joy of experiencing my first Prothonotary Warblers of the year and today I was graced to my 1st through 5th ;-)

Janelle, these guys make a very high pitched whistle that sounds like "Sweet sweet sweet sweet". I dont know if I would call it cute, but it's definitely recognizable!

Gorgeous coloring here, Cody! Looks like you found a small flock of these cuties. Do they sound as cute as they look? :-)
