Xanthorhiza simplicissima
Yellowroot is a bitter, cholagogue, hepatic, astringent, anti-inflammatory, and anti-microbial. Used externally as a wash and taken as a tea, it has been used to treat sores, ulcers, bacterial, and parasitic infections. The common name derives from the color of the root, which can be used to make a yellow dye.
