Description:

About 8 mm in length this fruit fly had black wings with distinct white patterns. The body and large eyes were a reddish grey colour.

Habitat:

Spotted on a cut-end of a branch of a gum tree in a nature reserve. This is an Australian native.

Notes:

Very actively looking around with constantly moving wings.
A species of fruit fly with larvae that feed on over ripe, damaged or fallen fruit.
Family: Tephritidae
