Description:

The Sharp-shinned hawk is the smallest raptor found in North America. “Sharp-shinned” refers to the bird’s flattened, thin tarsus (leg bone). Adults have a slate gray back while immatures have brown backs like this one.

Habitat:

Spotted hunting along a forest edge.
