Two birds darting about, similar in size to larks, with a speckled pattern on the breast and orange linear markings above the eye and on the face. Wings have white markings.
Seen on the Lake Erie shoreline at Presque Isle State Park.
I’d be very excited if this is a thrush, especially the redwing, Turdus iliacus, as it is an accidental species (recorded 3 or fewer times in the past 10 years) as per the Pennsylvania Ornithological Records Committee. This spotting could alternatively be one of the New World sparrows, but the birds seem too large to be sparrows.
