Anax junius
A large dark bulls eye in front of the eyes. This is a very large dragonfly with a length of 2 3/4 to 3 1/8 inches (68 to 80 mm). The thorax of the male is brownish green to yellowish green and unmarked. The abdomen is bright blue, changing to green towards the rear, and marked with black. The female is primarily yellowish green and marked with brownish black on the abdomen.
Hovering over the water of a city maintained retention pond.
Wing positions for flying are photos 1&2; next series is photos 3&4. It moved and blurred between these two stops.

Thnaks Maria and Lauren. It helped by hovering now and again. Got lots of blurry images too :)
Great! So hard to do...
How nice to get a series of a dragonfly in flight!
