Giant Golden Orb Weaver

Nephila sp.

The web is 1 m in diameter and these are characteristically composed of a shiny golden silk, thus the name “golden orb spiders”. This is probably a pilipes species but it has large yellow spots on its back instead of stripes. The size of this female body is 50 mm.

In the forest.

Thanks Brian! I followed a forest path and got parts of the web in my face. Then I saw this magnificent spider.
