Great Spangled Fritillary

Speyeria cybele

Description:

A large butterfly with a wing span of 2 1/2 - 4 inches. The upperside of the male is tan to orange with black scales on the forewings. Females are tawny and are darker than the males. Underside of hindwings have wide pale submarginal bands and large silver spots.

Habitat:

Spotted on Wild Bergamot in a meadow at Bent of the River Audubon
