Dark-eyed Junco (Slate-colored)

Junco hyemalis

Description:

Although a regularly expected species here in the Southeast, the Dark-eyed Junco only visits my feeders once or twice every Winter. This Winter, I was lucky enough to have one stay in my yard for about a month. He stayed just long enough for the blossoms to fall and then left for the frozen north when the leaves started to grow.

Habitat:

Urban woodlands
