Brown-headed Cowbird (male)

Molothrus ater

Description:

A lovely Icterid, Molothrus ater, the male Brown-headed Cowbird has a distinct brown head and black body. Females are light brown. Although native to North America, they have become very detrimental to endangered species of birds, destroying the eggs, as females lay eggs in other species' nests. Molothrus ater can be seen frequently with Red-winged Blackbirds and European Starlings, as this individual was accompanied by.

Habitat:

More commonly a field bird, they usually do not appear at feeders so willingly. I wonder if it is due to the late Spring they are needing more food.

Notes:

Previously, I had observed an immature individual. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/125...
