Common Blue Violet

Viola sororia

Description:

Low growing plant with smooth leaves and stems. Flowers produced on separate stalks. Color of flowers can range from white to blue to purple.

Habitat:

Suburban backyard garden. Grows in gardens and yards, often in disturbed areas.

Notes:

Flowers and leaves are edible. Considered a weed by some. These flowers were more purple in real life but my camera ate the red tint and turned them more blue (I think I had it on the wrong setting).
