Goa, The Tibetan Gazelle

Procapra picticaudata

Description:

Wikipedia states, 'Goas are relatively small altelopes with slender and graceful bodies. They weigh from 13 to 16 kg. Males have long, tapering ringed horns. Females have no horns'.

Habitat:

These gazelles are found to inhabit the cold and semi-deserts of the Tibetan Plateau. I observed this and few others grazing on sparse beads of ground grass by the banks of Teesta River (now, only a small stream) which originates nearby. Altitude: about 17,000 ft.

Notes:

This and some other Gazelles were spotted in the high plateau near Gururdongmar in North Sikkim.
