Chinese Mantis with Prey

Tenodera sinensis

Description:

Large tan and green mantis with vertical stripes on face. Prey was probably a Bold Jumper (Phidippus audax). Check out the whole series for a bit of gory detail. Look at that mouth in Photo #1!

Habitat:

Suburban garden. Found on the side of the house by the raspberry canes.

Notes:

The Chinese Mantis is an introduced species to North America. It can get quite large and will eat anything it can catch and kill.
