Cope's Gray Treefrog

Hyla chrysoscelis

Description:

Medium-sized treefrog with toe pads and lichen-like pattern.

Habitat:

Suburban backyard

Notes:

This frog has bright orange on the undersides of its thighs. The bright patches are normally only visible while the frog is jumping. This "flash pattern" likely serves to startle a predator as the frog makes its escape. In the last photo, a Cope's Gray Treefrog is on the left and a young Green Treefrog is on the right.
