Major Sallow

Feralia major

Description:

A gorgeous pistachio green moth in the Noctuidae family, the Major Sallow, Feralia major is one of my favorite moths, even though I just saw it today. The second photo is perhaps my favorite moth face photo I've taken! The moth was cleaning its proboscis with its leg.

Habitat:

The green, black, and white is thought to mimic the needles of conifers which the moths feed as larva on.

Notes:

Two of these were at the light this morning. Lifer!
