The adult male Orchard Oriole is a dark rust color with a black hood on the head, and the female is pale yellow all over.

Habitat:

Seen in open woodlands in a mixed oak/pine forested area.

Both are nice birds, and the females do look a lot alike. Up here Orchard Orioles are uncommon and Summer Tanagers are strays. Nice spotting!

Yes, I think you're right :) This was my first time to see Orchard Orioles, and only my second time to Summer Tanagers, both of which were everywhere. I had no idea what the female Oriole looked like, never crossed my mind it could have been that! Thanks :)

Nice shot Ashley! I think the female might just be another Orchard Oriole. It looks like there's wing bars on her.
