Common Slipper Shell

Crepidula fornicata

Description:

Medium sized sea snail. Shell is rounded with a "platform" on the inside. Pinkish purple with white coloration. Often found in stacks attached to any hard object (rocks in the case of my spotting).

Habitat:

Lower intertidal zone. These were found washed up on the beach. Sunken Meadow State Park, New York.

Notes:

The first three pictures are live ones. The fourth image is of a shell with the platform visible.
