Lapwing

vanellus vanellus

Description:

Also known as a peewit from its call is redlisted in Britain due to habitat loss and has suffered a serious decline in the past few years. This one flew in to the lake and then went and got comfy at the side of a pair of sleeping Mute Swans. There are Ospreys and harriers on this lake too so maybe it is good to sleep at the side of something much larger than yourself when such birds are about.

Habitat:

seen at Rutland waters nature reserve, owned by the Leicestershire wildlife trust.
