European Rabbit

Oryctolagus cuniculus

Description:

European rabbits a re a present from our friends in Spain and Portugal and are now very well spread! There has been some decline in the species though due to the disease myxomatosis. This one had discovered the bird seed put out on the ground for birds in the surrounding woodland which is why a little Chaffinch is looking at the Rabbit in photo 2 probably wondering why the Rabbit is eating its food!

Habitat:

seen in the wooded area in Rutland waters nature reserve.
