Butternut Curculio

Conotrachelus juglandis

Description:

At first I was thinking Cryptorhynchus lapathi, but I did not see the white on the upper part of the elytra which seems to be characteristic. Conotrachelus seems like a much better match, and I'm pretty sure this is C. juglandis.

Notes:

Lifer!

Thank you very much drP for the update! I'd checked periodically earlier in the week, but had not checked recently! Thank you so much for your help. After browsing the genus Conotrachelus on BugGuide, I think this is Conotrachelus juglandis.

I knew I had seen this guy recently. It was just luck that I found it again. I hope you both get an ID.

Nice detective work, drP! Thank you! I will keep an eye on Karen's spotting in case hers gets an ID before me.

Don't know what it is, but KarenL found what appears to be the same critter: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/227...
