Douglas Squirrel

Tamiasciurus douglasii

Description:

A large bushy tailed squirrel. Adults are about 33 cm in length including its 13 cm tail length. colored grayish to reddish brown to brown. Even sometimes appearing greenish earthy brown on their backs. Pale shades of vibrant orange are noticeable on the chest and belly. Legs and feet brown. Douglas squirrels do not have cheek pouches for carrying food.

Habitat:

Douglas squirrel beneath a fir tree bordering our property.

Notes:

This squirrel was busy,a joy to watch. It got a pine cone from the ground in a patch of ivy growing under a large Rhododendron. This area was beneath some very tall Fir trees. Once the squirrel secured the pine cone in its teeth, it quickly made its way up the tall Fir tree.
