Checkered Beetle

Enoclerus sp.

Description:

This beetle was about 4 mm in length. Elytra are bright red with one black spot on each. Rest of the insect was black. I've not been able to narrow the ID down to the species yet, possibly Enoclerus spinolae?

Habitat:

I found this tiny beetle indoors. I suspect that it may have overwintered in the walls of my house and emerged as spring arrived. I live in the suburbs of a major metropolitan area, but on a mature wooded lot with a deciduous forest adjacent to our backyard.
