Zebra eel, length ~1m, swimming along reef surface.

Habitat:

Near shore tropical waters; coral reef ecosystem.

Notes:

Spotted offshore of Leeward Oahu. Date notional; year is probable. Free-swimming eels are unusual in daylight. Original medium color slide, taken with Nikonos III using flash; print subsequently scanned and image saved as digital file.
