Hahaha! Yes it was taken many years ago but I remember it like it was yesterday. I checked the Guide and it was 1996!!!

You're welcome Kerry! These names have been changed many times and your guide I'm sure was correct at the time of printing (and when this photo was taken :-)). We try to stick to the most recent widely accepted names to avoid confusion. Again all really matters is the scientific name :-)

Thanks for your reply Kerry. My Birds of Africa field guide (Sinclair and Ryan 2003), as well as EOL, Avibase, Birdlife International and IUCN have Chlorocichla flaviventris as the Yellow-bellied Greenbul, and all birds in the genus Chlorocichla as commonly known as greenbuls. Greenbuls indeed belong to the bulbul family at large (Pycnonotidae). Chlorocichla flaviventris is not found in Asia and the bird sometimes called Green Bulbul there is a different bird. The local use of common names can be varying and confusing, which is why it's great to have unambiguous scientific names: we know we're talking about the same bird :-)

Thanks Daniel. I used the field guide to South African Birds to check the name. Also this is what the locals called it. I did notice that it is called a Green bubul in the asian areas.

Lovely bird Kerry! You must have meant Greenbul for the common name.
