Description:

The drake has an iridescent green head, yellow bill, chestnut brown breast, and it white neck ring. The sides of the underbody are gray with a black tail and have feathers at the end of the tail curl up. The hen or female has a mottled brown body with black markings and the bill is orange with black markings and orange feet.

Habitat:

Any type of rural or urban wetland area including roadside ditches.

Notes:

This species is widely distributed in North America.
