Lark Sparrow

Chondestes grammacus

Description:

With such a bold face pattern, it is unlikely you will ever mix this sparrow up with anything else. The body is brown and white streaked like other sparrows, but the face is bold red and white patterned.

Habitat:

There was a big flock of these guys foraging on the ground in the tall grass, but of course none of them would let me get anywhere near them. This one finally flushed up to a tree where I could actually see him, but he was still pretty far away. In a stand of oaks near a creek in Palo Duro Canyon SP.
