In the East, they live in bottomland hardwood stands, flooded deciduous swamps, upland mixed deciduous–conifer forests, and in some suburban areas where houses or other buildings are mixed into woodlands. In the West, they live in riparian and oak woodlands, and also in eucalyptus groves and some residential areas.
This couple (male on left higher) was busy working on the next generation. After a quick mating the male flew down and collected some nesting materials. The female remained "fluffed-up" as seen in photo. The morning was a bit cold for the area, perhaps she was a little chilly.
