A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Elhamma australasiae
At about 22mm long Elhamma has tented wings at rest; mostly shades of velvety brown but the male has a white flash in a wave shape. This one is a male.
Open grassy woodlands. Feeds on poaceae.
They had a very bad season here from drought. As the life cycle involves a few years as larva I hope they can choose to 'over-winter' and might re-appear next year. Observations in Australia - http://bie.ala.org.au/species/Elhamma+au... http://eol.org/pages/959775/overview
