This Hawk Owl was being mobbed by a Black-billed Magpie while perching next to a Bald Eagle nest. 3 magpies came to visit this snag while the owl was there, but only one was mobbing the owl. The owl didn't move despite the magpie's efforts, but I could hear it quietly making quiet little annoyed noises while it was being mobbed. A bald eagle came to land on the snag and the owl left as the eagle was landing. Short clip I took of the magpie mobbing the owl: https://youtu.be/cM1Ioavjg40
Large Black Cottonwood snag with a bald eagle nest on it. Outside of town where only a few homes are.
Northern Hawk Owls are listed as rare in Kodiak on my Fish & Wildlife Service bird list for Kodiak. However, if you go to the right areas in winter, you are a lot more likely to see one. Photo taken during the Narrow Cape - Kalsin Bay Christmas Bird Count
