Red Eared Slider

Trachemys scripta elegans

Description:

Was about 8-9 inches in diameter. Had moss (?) covering its shell. It kept digging for hours in a sandy patch in the back yard by a wooden fence.

Habitat:

Found in my sisters backyard. It was digging by a wooden fence in a sandy area. It reminded us of when sea turtles lay eggs. Could it have been laying eggs?

Just an update: my sisters pool guy said he found 5 baby turtles in the skimmer that he took home to raise.

She definitively looks like she's laying eggs, when she's gone in the morning, I would suggest placing a fence with 2" holes around the site to keep raccoons from getting to the eggs.
