Common Kukri snake

Oligodon arnensis

Description:

Non venomous but has a triangular head. Initially the shape of the head misled me into thinking it was a baby viper.

Habitat:

I understand it frequents termite hills and eats termites enters homes and gets killed too. I spotted it just outside my home; and yes, we have termites in the area.

Notes:

The snake had come close to the sparrow's nest inside an unused pipe set in a wall. The male sparrow attacked it quite viciously. The snake was passive, belly-side up when I intervened to lift it up with a thin branch whereupon it vanished into the grassy verge. Seeing the sparrow's fight a common mynah and a crow had landed nearby but not joined the inter-species fight.
