Lycoperdon perlatum
Pear-shaped (upside down) puff balls about 35 mm across with brown warty cuticle. These were mature and partially collapsed. Greenish-brown spores were coming out of apical pores. The stem bases showed white mycelium.
Spotted growing along a track (perhaps from buried rotting wood), after rains.
Order - Agaricales Family - Agaricaceae

Again, as I have already stated, they have warts not scales.
L. pyriforme doesn't have any scales... :/
Probably on buried wood as stated. This area was damp with washed-down dirt from the hills - the ground had heaps of wood & bark under dirt. It's a pity I didn't think to clear the base at the time.
Was it growing on wood?
