Tomato

Temenis laothoe

Description:

rare violetta form, was fortunate enough to get dorsal and ventral views (second photo)

Habitat:

tropical rainforest, amazon

Notes:

I spotted this amazingly stunning butterfly while I was taking a rest at a picnic bench at Fin del Mundo, near Mocoa. The butterfly was hanging around and I didn't leave until I got some good shots of it. It was feeding on some rotten fruit and let me approach fairly close, though I did crop these photos a tad. Pretty sure on the ID, but not sure why the common name is Tomato.
