Shagbark hickory

Carya ovata

Description:

Hickories are common in east central Mississippi woodlands. I visit this mature shagbark hickory often and I've taken photos of it at many different times of year. I like the many different "greens" of early spring ... before all the new growth toughens up, gets darker, shows less variation in color. Same tree at different times of year: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/310... http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/309... http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/304...
