Mute Swan

Cygnus olor

Description:

This is a juvenile which has almost got its white adult plumage but still has the grey upper mandible of the younger swan, which looks even darker due to the lighting, which I have enhanced in the second picture. The growth of the bulbous knob at the upper mandible base is sufficient to rule out Trumpeter and Tundra Swan.

Habitat:

Coastal marshes.
